Hi,
I believe my chickens might have coccidiosis but they don't have all of the tell tale symptoms so I'm not sure. I have found out the the environment they're in, an often muddy and wet chicken run can make coccidiosis likely. In February and this month I had 2 sudden chicken deaths, they were otherwise healthy and had no external damage. They did however become sick looking and ill right before the deaths. The bird was fine in the morning and then sick at night, then dead the next morning. I read that coccidiosis can cause sudden deaths like these without them showing symptoms in the past. On top of these deaths my chickens will become lethargic and sick looking (puffy feathers, closed eyes, slow moving) randomly during the day, then seemingly get over it in an hour or so. They have also decreased in egg production and lay thin shelled wrinkly eggs (I give them free choice oyster shells and grit). They still usually have lot's of interest in food and water however (not when they're are sick looking for a few hours). I have also found orange droppings regularly (picture below), and read that these can also be a symptom. Is it safe to treat them for it even if they don't have it? Thank you for any help you can offer!
