is this cochin still a hen?

Hi Crysmom: I am finding out from my 4 standard cochin girs that it can be confusing when it comes to comb size. Mine are all 5 months 2 weeks old and all have laid their first egg and you can tell from the pictures that comb size is totally different on all 4.

Ruth / my silver penciled

Hazel / my black whose comb is large!

Esher / my blue whose has hardly any comb at all
and
Erlene / my buff

Hope this helps

Jacie

Its hard to tell from the picture. Hold the chicken and put a few of the lower neck feathers from the upper side of the chicken over your thumb. Check the ends of the feathers. If the little feathers are rounded on the ends - it sa female- a males little neck feathers would be pointed on the ends----Since you know the other one is a female you can compare and after you do this you will be able to tell all the sexes of your chicks

this bird is definately a boy. I saw him doing the cock a doodle doo.... although it sounds more like a car starting than a real rooster, but at 19 weeks he has finally crowed
