Is this considered "Squating"?? Maybe the camera just suprised her since she swung her head around quickly just as I snapped it lol.

If so, then maybe that means I will be getting eggs soon. My pullets are 19 weeks tommorow

No not really. If you would have approached her, and she squatted all the way down to the ground with her wings a bit out to the sides, THATS a squat. Though, they normally do that when you approach and try to reach for them. I bet she is close though her comb is very red, any day.

My hens went from being a little skittish to "squatting" way down with wings up at the fold and out to the side and they actually let me pet them. When they do that you will KNOW it's a squat. I was wondering also but when I seen mine do it then I knew. My eggs came about a week after with every one of them. Just keep reaching down to try to pet them and thats when they will give you the squat.

My bantam Buttercups are 20 weeks old this week and have yet to show any signs of squatting.

They have both gotten very red about the face and comb however. I keep waiting for the "squat", but nothing so far. My other birds did that.

Squatting is very obvious and you won't have to guess. The pullet will freeze in place, even skittish ones, push her breast toward the ground, and hold her wings out. She may lift her tail.

Nope not it. They squat ALL the way down to the ground and lift their wings a bit off their sides. Mine do it as soon as I walk into their run now. My RSL started to lay at 19 weeks, the other at 20, then my BSL at 22 weeks. They are 24 weeks now and still waiting on my EE to lay her first.

Your's should be starting anytime now. Do they spend time in their nests at all?

My BA does the squat thing. We call it, "Doing a little dance." You go to her as to pick her up and she squats low, stomps her feet really fast, wings go out a little, and she freezes. It's quite funny and happens so fast, you can't help but laugh. She started this last week. I expect her to give up those eggs any day. She has hatched sometime in March.

My chickens are "Stingey".

I got my first squat earlier this week from our red sex link. It was quite obvious and a bit surprising - I thought our barred rock would be the first, since she looks more mature, but I have since gleaned (from BYC of course) that RSL typically start laying relatively early...
