Is this coop okay for 4 hens at 20 weeks of age? It is only for them to sleep and eat in as throughout the day they are free range in a garden, I’ve attached pictures of the garden and the coop. They seem to like it but just want to be sure 😁

Welcome to BYC. Where, in general, are you located? Climate matters, especially when it comes to housing your chickens.

What are the dimensions of the coop and of the attached run? It looks awfully small in the photo compared to the size of the hen (some coop companies actually use toy chickens in their ads to make the coops look larger  ).

The usual guideline are for each adult, standard-sized hen you need:
  • 4 square feet in the coop,
  • 10 square feet in the run,
  • 1 linear foot of roost,
  • 1/4 of a nest box,
  • And 1 square foot of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, preferably located over the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost
That means that for 4 birds you need:
  • 16 square feet in the coop.
  • 4 feet of roost
  • 40 square feet in the run.
  • 4 square feet of ventilation. 1, 2'x2' window is theoretically enough but in practice doesn't create any air FLOW so better to spread the venting around (and even better to exceed the minimums, especially in warm climates).
  • 2 nest boxes, to give the hens a choice
My Little Monitor Coop is designed to meet all the minimums for a flock of 4: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/the-little-monitor-coop.76275/

But it's important to remember that these are minimums and that some circumstances call for significantly more space. :)

Here's an excellent article on chickens' space needs. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/how-much-room-do-chickens-need.66180/

Short answer is...No, not really.

How long have they been living in there?
I don't even see any usable roosts are they just sleeping in the nests and on the floor?

Free ranging is all well and dandy, until it's not, then you'd better have adequate secure space....even then too small a coop is problematic.

Yes, Welcome to BYC! @FlynnCahill
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Most prefab coop fit comfortably for two large fowl chickens. If I see 3 and they get access to outside of the run. It might be okay for now. Do not expect the coop to let long though.

Maybe if you can modify it more or make a new coop for 4 birds would be ideal.
