Dark maroon/brown color droppings... Is this considered bloody diarrhea?
sad.png

I have given them some medicated feed since I have had them, and some non medicated.
If I switch back to medicated only, will that help or is it too late?

Thanks in advance.

(Feels like giving up on raising chickens)

After seeing photos of chicken poo...lol...I am hoping I have been upset about nothing!!
I hope? It's just that, this has not been the color nor consistency of their droppings, until now.
I haven't seen red blood, just a maroon shade and a different consistency.

IS this considered diarrhea? Does this look like Cocci or anything else?
(Please say normal! lol)

thank you for that...please excuse lack of punctuation, small caps. my keyboard stopped working a few min ago....i hate onscreen keyboard lol

the poo looks a lot like the brown poo under caecal, with the blue bacground... a little darker maybe but close.

One thing to remember with chickens. Just the same if you eat something it might affect your digestive system and result in..... well diariha or what ever the same is true with chickens. To much yogurt or greens might result in runny poop and is no cause for alarm.

Now if you've only given them feed and water and nothing mixed in then there might be a problem. However if you've given them a treat of some kind then it could just be the affects of whatever that treat was.

Also remember that "stress" can kill a chick. To much handleing and poking and proding can stress a chick and weaken their immune system. Also remember they are babies and need to sleep a lot.

I suggest only feeding them a commercial chick feed and clean water. The switch from one feed to another can have an affect. Especially if they are different brands and different protein percentages. If you must make changes do it gradually mixing the two until your completely onto the new feed.

Treats are nice but completely unnecessary , especially in babies/chicks.

Hope all goes well,

Thanks, I hope it is something of than Cocci.
I haven't given them much other than chick starter and water (with vitamins).
The last treat I gave them (a couple days ago) was dry oatmeal.
A day or so before that, I did give them a little bit of greens and canned peas though.
I don't know if that could be causing it?

If they are little they are just getting used to digesting all the different things you are giving them. Usually with cocci you really can see the blood. Good luck!

No, I didn't see any bright blood. It was a maroonish brown color.
When I went to take a picture of one bit I had set aside,
the maroon color seemed to have faded a bit.
I did take pics, will be updating with photos in a moment.
Hope I am worried about nothing!!

when my first group of chickens got cocci the blood seemed to almost be a separate part of the poop, and it was bright red.

From my experience, and what you are describing, it does not sound the same.

Every once in a while my chicks poop looks like that, and I was wondering the same thing! I was going to take a picture of it tonight and post the same question! lol. But looking at the poop chart, it looks just like the one you said yours looked like too. and it makes sense because the chart says that they only do it every few days and sometimes mine is like that and sometimes they arent. So hopefully they are all fine!
