I found this duckling behind the coop all by itself. It's only less than a day old and has something stuck to it's belly. What is it and will it be ok?

Take mineral oil & try to get the sticky stuff off, then use baby shampoo to clean it really well. I think your baby will be okI found this duckling behind the coop all by itself. If the stuff is umbilical cord still attached to the navel I wouldn't do that personally. If I put anything on it it would be clear iodine.Take mineral oil & try to get the sticky stuff off, then use baby shampoo to clean it really well. I think your baby will be ok![]()
I believe it may be because up near the naval area there are a couple of bubbly looking parts that are drying up also against the belly. I thought they absorbed all that stuff before they hatchedI can't tell if that stuff is attached to the navel or just to the down.
If it's attached to the navel still I wouldn't put anything on it so it can dry up and fall off.
If the navel Is closed I'd let it soak in a warm bath and pull that stuff off. I'd get it under a heat lamp and give it some nutri drench.
Sometimes they push out a little too soon or the mama duck opens the shell. I've seen that happen.I believe it may be because up near the naval area there are a couple of bubbly looking parts that are drying up also against the belly. I thought they absorbed all that stuff before they hatched
