The duckling in question also makes these "chirping sounds" now and then and now has red breast feathers.

How old? What are you feeding? And what breed?

Sometimes juvenile ducks can look a little "rough" as they experience the rigors of growth. Are the breast feathers red due to blood on them?

They definitely go through a little bit of an ugly stage - is this duck wet from bathing/playing in water? Does it have access to water? is there anything else that seems off besides its appearance?
