Is this egg a gonner?

I have quail hatching. Got 7 of 15 last night (day 18) and today I have a few more hatching. One zipped, and has had no progress for the last 10 hours. The cracked part of the egg is dark green. I pulled it out and I could still see a heartbeat, however the membrane is looking pretty gross. Any advice?

You did the cracking or it cracked this big opening itself?

I'm assuming it did it. I didn't mess with the egg at all. Just pulled it out under the humidifier to get a closer look and saw the "heartbeat" movement.
Oh ok...usually if they zip like that then are ready to hatch. It may be stuck or something may be wrong with it.
I find that if I have to help one out of the shell then it usually dies.

That's kinda what I was thinking, especially with the way the membrane looks. Just surprised it made it that far and is giving up lol.

It happens sometimes, the just wear themselves out trying to hatch and they die!
I opened it today. The bird looked normal but the placenta was green and gross. I also had one hatching with curled feet after all the others. This is my 3rd quail hatch and I've noticed if they're late hatching, for whatever reason, they usually have some issue.

I’d guess it would be deformed chicks take longer to hatch rather than later hatching chicks develop abnormalities. It is frustrating when they get to hatch and just die but there’s usually a reason even if it isn’t visible and you’re right, assisting doesn’t usually help, they die anyway or are often off.
