I have had my first set of eggs in the bator for 4 days and decided to candle them tonight. All look exactly the same as the pic you see here. No veining that I can see. Just the dark blob of yolk at the top, and clear at the bottom. The dark spot at the top is my finger. Are they fertile or am I just suffering from the "First Time Incubating Syndrome" and need to wait a bit?

I thought I should be seeing veins by now. Any advice from the veteran hatcher's would be greatly appreciated! Thanks gang.

I candled at 4 day, and I could see some veining in mine, but several looked just like yours. I will candle again next weekend, and hope I can see better. This is my first try, and my eggs are hard to see through and I did not really know what I was looking for. Now I have an idea, so next time I will possibly wait until day 7 for the first candling.

I think that 4 days is to soon to candle unless you are an experienced candler!! Wait until day 8 then you can at least see a dark blob! I've done 5 hatches and still are not sure what I'm seeing. If in doubt don't through anything out. Put it back in incubator and see what develops.

In my opinion, not fertile. I still have some I am refusing to give up on though.. hang in there. Hopefully you have some fertile ones!

with the eggs I'm hatching now I kept candling but I never saw any viening until day six ( My eggs looked like that until day 6)

I candle on day 7, day 14 and then again on day 18. The changes are definite by those days and there is very little guessing. Personally, after all I've read on this site, I wouldn't feel comfortable handling them much more than that for fear of messing something up!!! But that's just me .. a bit of a spaz!

Now that's what I expected to see. I'm gonna wait till day seven. If I don't see something definite I'll throw em out and start over. At this point I'm wondering that if they aren't fertile what the problem is. The bator it maintaining temp/humidity quite well and I have the eggs on an auto turner. Don't know what to do. I have 3 roos with the hens and they are getting lots of action, so I don't think that's the problem. Wait and see I guess....

I'll give it till day 7 or 8. If there's no improvement then I'm tossing them before they start exploding. Thanks for the reply!

I'm inclined to agree with you. If these eggs aren't fertile I don't know what the problem. I have 3 adult roos in with 15 hens and there's lots of fun being had by all, so I don't think that's a problem. :hugsThe bator w/ auto egg turner is maintaining the temp and humidity on the nose. I'll wait a few more days. They may surprise me. Thanks for the reply.
