Is this food too big for these babies?

They're (obviously) eating it (27% protein game bird starter) but I'm wondering if it's too big for them and they're fishing through it for the small pieces, and making a huge mess in the brooder in the process.

Is this just normal quail behavior?
Can you tell from the pic if it needs to be ground up smaller?

maybe just a little smaller would be better.

I sift my adult food to get the powder for the chicks. Some people pound theirs, other use a coffee grinder (that's never been used for coffee) for theirs.

A ziplock freezer bag and rolling pin are what I have used.

Bullet blender mine it was a tiny kings quail but sifted the food before i started doing that
