Is this food too big for these babies?

Another question;

My chickens eat 18% protein chick starter, with the oyster shell on the side. Will this feed meet the dietary needs of my quail as well once they are full grown?

I save my egg shells and bake them for about 10 mins, which makes them easy to crush with a mortar and pestle.

I made the mistake of buying a bag of oyster shell for chickens, and the pieces are HUGE, about the size of my button quails' heads! I haven't been able to grind it up either, the pestle and mortar don't break it at all. Maybe I can find some finer stuff meant for budgies.
I bought manna pro brand I think, it’s a yellow bag (I since put it in a container so I can’t check) and the size is fine for coturnix. However, at first I was paranoid and I would put it in the nutra bullet which worked fine. They didn’t eat the pieces that basically became dust tho.

I feed my quail 24% protein gamebird feed. Some people say lower protein is fine, but I haven’t tried it because other people suggest higher. You could always split test and see how the lower protein compares.

I think I'll pass on manna pro, seems it's a rarity in the UK :eek: Good tip though, I'm sure there's something similar with small pieces!
