I went out to get eggs this afternoon, and i found one of my buff orp hens in the corner of the coop barely alive. I picked her up and saw that she had yellow dripping from her vent a little bit, so i took her inside and was thinking of giving her a soak in some warm water when she died.
After she died, i opened her up and found that her insides were all covered in egg yolk.
I'm assuming this means she died from something akin to peritonitis, but what confuses me is that it's obvious she had a good meal this morning - not several days ago. I would've thought something like this would kill much more slowly.
Also, she was lying right next to a normal size egg that i assume she laid - since i don't ever find eggs in that particular place.
I would just like y'all to shed your wisdom on why she died so i can have better understanding.
She had no visible injuries or bruises anywhere.
