I have a serama rooster who was out in the cold(only 35ish degrees, wasn’t below freezing). I put him and his girls in my heated shed. I just noticed this on his comb, and didn’t see this when I first moved them. Is this frostbite? If so what can I do for it? It doesn’t seem to bother him, not sore.

yeah, that's definitely frostbite. dont worry though, you can bring him to a nice, warm, humid area and put petroleum jelly on. like, after you take a shower when your bathroom is all steamy, turn the heater on and stick a chicken diaper on him, and bring him inside. that'll make him feel a lot better.

he'll be missing part of his comb the rest of his life, but thats ok
the dead tissue should fall off painlessly in about a week. keep him warm every day.
make sure the others dont pick at his comb.
Thank you. He’s lost parts of his comb before from trauma, so I’m not too worried about that. It’s just the first time I’ve dealt with frostbite. He’s in a heated shed, I can add a humidifier in there.

Humdity promotes frostbite so you would not want to set a humidifier inside the coop. In cold climates, frostbite is generally unavoidable, particularly with large combed breeds. What your rooster has is a minor case of frostbite, and it would be best left alone. Ointments like vaseline trap bacteria into the tissue and increase the risk of infection; additionally, in cold climates, it may freeze directly on the comb.

I won’t do that then. Thanks for letting me know!
