Is this Frostbite?

Hi! I noticed some black and gray crusty areas on my roosters waddles. He also has a few black spots on his comb. Is this frostbite or just skirmishes with the neighbors rooster through the fence. Lows have been 14.

Has it been freezing there? Frostbite causes the exposed tissue to first turn white as the frozen tissue no longer supports blood flow, and then the tissue swells and is extremely painful. Days later, as the tissue has been deprived of blood, it turns black. Then much later, the blackened tissue falls off.

So, no, your rooster likely has battle scars, not frostbite.

It doesn't look like frost bite but that is a very dark comb which sometimes can mean health problems but I'm not a doc so couldn't tell you.

Your rooster's skin looks perfectly healthy. His skin and eyes are a beautiful, striking color, though.

The spots are just scratched from skirmishes. His skin color is fine. He has a walnut type comb indicating that he has a strong silkie lineage which explains his comb color.
