Is this goat supposed to look like that?

How did the goat owner find out we were talking about her ad on BYC?!

Also, you need to be careful feeding her free choice grain/corn/whatnot... Goats aren't supposed to just eat their fill of grain! They can bloat and all sorts of things.
My goats would just sit and eat grain all day long if I let them. My two doe goat together only get 2 cups of goat sweet feed per day plus unlimited hay. Hay is supposed to be their main diet, not grain. If you cut her back on grain you will find that she is alot cheaper to care for than you thought!
My two girls are going through one bale of hay per week and 14 cups of grain which doesn't even put a dent in a 50 pound bag. The hay is what is expensive around here, at $7 a bale. The grain is only $13 a bag.
And you always want to be very careful feeding up an emaciated animal. Too much food too fast is really bad for their system.

pick up the phone! i mean, if i were planning on rescuing an animal from such dire straits, i would at least initiate phone contact to make double sure that the situation was what it appeared to be.

Maybe she was a lurker. There's some chickens in her goat pic. A lot of the time when doing online research for chickens a post on BYC comes up as the first finding! That's how I found BYC.

Okay Alinda. I understand people were very quick to judge, but when you post things on the internet, everybody in the world can see it. You may have put more information about her condition in your ad so people aren't so quick to jump to conclusions. Maybe you should have taken some better pictures of her......maybe of her in the yard with grass, or at a better angle. Maybe put a giant bale of alfalfa in front of her with a bucket of water visible in the photo. That way, people could SEE that she was being well taken care of, as opposed to wondering why she was in such a thin condition.

Looks like to me the bottom line before a purchase should be testing for Johnes and cae as well. Just a thought. I know there are many goats(and other ruminants) that are bought with the thought of getting them back in shape, but that doesn't happen because they are sick with johnes. Testing is the only way to be sure on the other hand I believe some carriers test negative
