I think the girls pulled Dons tail feathers out, he had long ones and in about 2weeks they were gone

Not the right body type and not the nice dark coloration that makes a RIR a RIR.

When you look at a RIR rooster "head on" so that you can see his back, they need to look like a brick. Square all the way from the shoulders to the hips. Love to see it all the way from the shoulders to the tail, but oftentimes the tails are "skinnier" than the rest of the body.

At a local 4H country fair, he'd probably be fine. But in a "real" show, you'd have to get show stock to do well no matter the breed.

But if you're not showing. Oh well, he's a lovely boy!
