Is this hay or straw?

Is there such a thing as too much straw in a chicken run? I think we over did it.. my run is covered with a clear tarp, we are supposed to get snow this weekend and next.. I want to make sure my girls are warm, 2 silkies and 1 barred rock. I live in Chicago, Illinois

I'm sure they will be fine. I am way north of you, the thumb, and mine have been fine. I once had a hen with frostbite on her comb. But, it was an unusually long and cold winter (dear dropping dead in the forest).
