When we got rid of our rooster, we were just looking for someone to take him that wouldn't use him for fighting. We were fine with him being eaten, we just couldn't cull him ourselves.

State on CL that you are looking for unwanted roosters to feed your family. I bet you'll get lucky!

I would also tell the people where their roosters are going to end up. Some people will be glad to get rid of their roos even if someone else will cull/eat them anyway. I know if I couldn't do it (or didn't have anyone to do it for me) I'd give away roos for food.

Interesting thread. I'm tempted to do this in my area. I need to get some processing practice.

Of course you would always want to keep all foreign roos separate from your flock... including the cage you transport in.
But someone mentioned in this thread about quarantine for a number of days to ensure they are healthy. If they're going direct to dead... why would that matter? Once you process them, you'll surely know whether or not by the condition of the insides whether you should eat them or not.... right?

Its only wrong if he people tell you that they dont want them eaten and you eat them anyways. That'd be wrong and sick.
other wise they are giving away roos..they know what usually happens to them. They get eaten.

I only ask that the roos be treated respectfully and humanely. What you choose to do after you leave is entirely up to you, because it's YOUR roo now. I don't eat chicken, so I'd rather not know, but were I to find out, I'd be okay with it.

I have great respect and admiration for those who process their own food.

I don't think it's immoral. It could be deceptive if they truly believe you are going to keep the roo. Odds are they just want to get rid of the things.

so one of the guys who I have been corresponding with thanked me for being upfront, told me he doesn't care if I kill the bird, just couldn't do it himself..Appreciate the honesty and he is even going to bring the roo to me!

Another email person said I should go to bleep for taking people's roosters to kill them..After I told honestly what I would do with the bird...
so there we go..

I am going to post another CL ad and see what I get, I am loving the idea of free meat!

I have 8 roos right now that have to go...I have 4 that I don't care, and actually want them to go to freezer camp, the others are quality birds and docile but would rather know someone is eating them than doing bad things with them....would rather they are treated humanely and put down fast and not mistreated...
