Is this lice on Bob’s legs?

Mites were infesting my coop a couple of years ago, I didn't have anything to treat with, but I did have some DE in my basement. I just tried it and it took care of them. The brand I bought was Little City dogs, and I am planning on buying it again.

But for scaly leg mites I would NOT use DE, the successful method I have been using is just spreading Vaseline all over their legs, very effective :D
I read that, too! But do I put it on the bottoms of their feet, too?

If one has an outbreak of lice, mites, or leg mites, DE will not be enough. I have used it without any good results. Permethrin spray or dust works well. But for leg mites, the oil method is pretty effective.
But it that what it LOOKS like? Kinda resembled a picture I saw...

DE is a all natural product that I think works wonderfully for lice/mites especially combined with natural wood ash , some disagree and see no value in it. The price is good and if it keeps my barn smelling good and my coop ?? I’m a fan

It absorbs odour and keeps poop trays dryer View attachment 1542116
Thank you for this message! I was actually considering purchasing some for the big coop. Thanks so much!!

DE isn't very effective and can be dangerous to inhale. There are articles explaining its dangers. I strictly use permethrin and its kept all mites and lice at bay. Want proof? Get two tub full of some bugs (like ants). Sprinkle one with DE and one with permethrin and see what happens.
With leg mites I use vaseline.
I'll tag someone who may be of more help.

We have used this for almost a year with great success....We have a natural setting for our chickens and do not (hopefully never) use any chemicals or hormones or medicated feeds with our animals! So far, all is well, and the DE has worked for the prevention of all forms of mites and lice! I have also used it as a liquid as well to kill mites! It does work! :)

It is impossible for DE to kill a bug if it is wet.

DE....The old DE debate. Some swear by it, some don't. Personally, Ive done my own experiments with it and find it does not get rid of any sort of lice, mite infestation.
Just soak the legs in warm soapy water, you can also rub the legs with a toothbrush while they are soaking and then slather legs and feet with Vaseline, oil, bag balm or whatever other thick oily sunbstance.

They do sell permethrin in Canada at this time, although some pesticides have recently become harder to find. It is always nice to use natural methods if they work, but if there is a lice or mite infestation (not leg mites,) I would use permethrin since it is safe for poultry and it works. There are liquid concentrates sold at most feed stores in the US that can be mixed with water and used with a bottle sprayer or garden sprayer for the coop.
