Is this mating behavior?

One of my hens, the one I think is not laying, has been crouching down, spreading its wings a bit and rapidly stomping her feet as a walk up to her. What does this mean? My laying hen only does it if I try to pick her up.

One of my laying hens crouches like that both when I pick her up and when she hears a predator overhead. Maybe you scared your hen?

That's common behavior. It's a submissive mating stance towards the alpha flock member--in this case, you. If your bird is a pullet, look for eggs soon. If she's an older hen that stopped laying for some reason, then expect her to come back into lay soon.

She is a pullet and she is the one not laying yet. So I look forward to her starting to lay!
