Reading this makes me wish my neighborhood allowed roosters! I never knew they could be so kind and loving toward the hens. Often times the only stories I hear about them are bad and how they "break the eggs in the nesting boxes" or "are so aggressive toward visitors and the other chickens". This really shocked me- I never knew this!
Ours will go into the nest boxes, sit, and call to the girls (like he does when he finds a treat for them) while he stamps down the nest box materials and keeps sitting and then spinning in it. It's hilarious, because he really doesn't fit well in the boxes with the big tail and just looks like a big ruffled mess when he wedges himself out. He his aggressive towards strange humans, too, but we don't mind that since he's never out when we have visitors that are actually welcome.
