Is this normal behavior for Emu chicks? Or is there a problem?

One of my favorite spaz out videos (though I may be biased since they are my babies).. It's worth a watch though, I've never shown it to anyone without them laughing at least part of it. They truly are ridiculous and I love them for it.

Wow!! That's the best emu video footage I've ever seen.

Seriously, can we advocate weasel-balling as a strategy for leg-strengthening?

Your birds are in just fine condition. The care they receive is evident. (Pity the birds here couldn't find time for a little grooming.

Saw a flock of 17 wild birds in a paddock while travelling to town. No yearlings or chicks visible. Quietly grazing in the sun. Lovely!!

It's a fantastic toy for enrichment and as you mentioned to get those muscles strong. I don't use it too often or they get wise to the fact that it isn't a snake (I believe they they think it's a dangerous threat, probably a snake). But about once a month I put it in with them and they go nuts. My next toy is going to be a remote controlled car. I'll make sure to film it. They just have a blast. I also stuff kongs for them and make ice blocks filled with fruit. They're never bored.

Sort off topic, if you keep sheep or you have any friend that do. This toy is a huge hit. It's the kong wobbler. It plays on a sheep's natural tendency to want to ram things with their heads and therefore the treats roll out of it. They'll spent hours trying to get them out. Engaged sheep are happy sheep. :)

When I saw your weasel ball video moonjelly I immediately ordered one for my 2 emu sons and they went nuts, OMG I was laughing so hard, best 6 bucks I ever spent. My boys also have these 2 stuffed cars from the movie Cars. They are soft and light weight and talk when they are touched or tossed, the boys drop them and when the cars make noise they jump up and down on them and "kill them". They will chase them and attack them all day if you keep tossing them. I like them because there are no parts to rip off and they're much to large to swallow.

Has anyone tried using a laser pointer to play with their emus? I have one for my cats and dog, but I haven't tried it out on any of my birds yet.

Also, their spazzy dances are the best! So adorable!

I haven't, but I'll give it a try this week. I can't imagine it getting the same reaction, though. It was really the tail attached to the weasel ball that sold it. With it's erratic snake like movements, they just lost their minds.

I just imagined them reverting back to their Australian heritage and thinking, "OH NO DEATH ADDER* barrelrollsaway"
