One of my hens, a speckled sussex, is behaving oddly today. She's been pacing in circles, twitching, sitting down, getting back up, and doing it all over again, always sitting in the exact same spot under the tree. I found my first two eggs in the compost pile yesterday (silly birds!), so could she be laying? All of the breeds I own lay similarly colored eggs, so I can't tell which of my hens laid them.

She's normally a pretty laid back, lazy bird, so her acting so restless is highly unusual. All of my hens were vaccinated for Mareck's disease at one day old.

So...WTH?

Hens can get restless when they begin laying. Abnormal behavior at the point of lay is pretty normal.
