Is this normal?

I've got a bantam that started laying (she laid 2 or 3 eggs) then she just quit. She hasn't laid any in a week. Is this normal egg laying behavior when one first starts to lay? My other 2 pullets that have started laying have given me an egg almost every single day since they started laying. Is it normal for them to just quit while getting started?

Yes. When a hen starts to lay, it can be unpredictable. Not to mention that winter is coming (depending on where you live), and the lack of daylight and warm temperatures can cause a decrease in egg production. Best wishes!

Thanks! The days are getting shorter however, last week, we were in the 90's. I live in Georgia and the weather doesn't know what it wants to do. This week is in the 40's and last week was in the 90's. Could that affect egg-laying?

Yes, absolutely! Fluctuations in temperature or any type of change/stress can affect egg laying.

Thanks. I was just worried about that major fluctuation because I read somewhere where the chicken ovulates every day. So I was worried something could be wrong with her. Thanks for your input.

Not all birds lay(or ovulate) every day...some birds lay inconsistently.
New layer can also be inconsistent at first.
Doesn't have much to do with temps, unless they are extreme or a drastic change.
Shortening days could affect laying also, more so with older birds than pullets.

I have a sebright bantam who's been laying consistently since July, 5-6 eggs a week and she hasn't laid and egg since Sunday. I'm wondering if the colder, shorter days has caused her to stop laying or if it's something else, too. She is/was one of my most consistent layers.
