so I have two black East Indies they hatched on Saturday/ Sunday. They are already spending a lot of time out of their heating plate.

They are also trying to swan dive off the heating plate. It seems to be their new favorite pastime tonight. They are giving me a minor heart attack because they are so tiny doing so many daredevil things.

Of course what’s a duckling question without a picture.

Thats adorable!

They are usualy smart enough to move away from heat and back into heat as they need it, Mabye your plates a little too low? i cant tell from the picture

eitherway, Ducklings are smarter and waaay waay tougher than we give credit for!

It’s just shorter than there head. It was 89 under the plate. I set it much lower than I did last year because these are much smaller ducklings.

They just seem to enjoy running around causing duckling chaos.

Of course they love making duckling chaos. I got the dome for my heat plate so they can't get on it. Mine like to climb on their waterer top and jump off .

I didn’t have the problem before with that. They were completely uninterested in the top of the heat plate last year. These ones love it. They jump on top just to jump off then do it again. I put a dog dish on top to try and stop them. But they were awefully cute sitting on top.
