Just an update.. took Ruby to the vet this morning and she went in to cardiac arrest about 30 mins ago and crossed the rainbow bridge now I am not real sure what to do about Max he is not himself without her and he is the only duck... Do I get another one and will he take to her? Ugh idk what to do.

I am having them do an autopsy so I can know if it's something that she got into or mold or what to protect Max

I am so sorry Yes find him a friend he needs someone. They really do grieve when they lose one.

I’m so sorry for your loss! Poor girl! You did all you could for her so I hope that is some comfort to you.
Max will need a friend but the good thing is that he will bond with a new friend when you can find one so it’s at least one less issue to worry about.

Thank you all Max isn't really eating and is walking around the yard quacking and then back to the duck house ... Just back and forth we are trying to give him some extra attention so he doesn't feel so lonely but man putting him to bed alone last night was heart wrenching . The vet called this morning and was shocked Ruby looked as good as she did and that she was only 3 months old because she says it looks like cancer through her entire body that started by her lung. She took slides and is going to let me know for sure later today when we pick Ruby up. She recommended not to get another duck for a week or 2 to make sure it's not something else that Max may have as well. She said it also may help Max if we let him see her so he knows and will stop looking for her idk. I can't do that part but thankfully my son in law can. My granddaughters have made her a headstone that they painted and they made sure they painted peas all over it since that was her favorite treat.

@dragonfly31573 She knows how loved she is and that you took such good care of her. I feel for poor Max, it does help letting them know that their loved one passed and it isn’t easy. You’re doing good keeping him company.
I hope you all take it easy and heal from your loss.
