I have a 5 week old rooster that is trying to mount his mama.

He jumps on her back and grabs here head feathers like my alpha rooster does when he mounts the hens.

I had this happen two summers ago! I thought it was very odd. It was a Black Copper Marans. I might expect it from an early maturing breed, maybe. What breed is your little cockeral?

I don't know if it's normal...but

That gives me a funny image.

It was a cute sight to see. I couldn't believe the 1st time I saw it, then he did it again.

Oh. I hadn't thought of it as being cute. I guess you might have a point. I remember freaking out and thinking that the little chick was abusing his mother, who is still one of my favorite hens. I rescued her from those chicks and put her back with the rest of the flock so I have no idea if the behavior would have continued. The little guy wasn't interested in his sisters. Maybe he was just trying to tell his mom that he was the new boss.
