This winter it has been in the 20's and 30's during the day, and night time sometimes drops close to zero. My chickens are always in the coop during the winter and I usually get 2-3 eggs from 17 chickens. Today I let them out as it got into the 40's. I ended up getting 8 eggs this afternoon. None this morning before going out. So is this normal, or a coincidence ? Or are they thanking me for letting them out? Thanks and sorry for the long question.

People will think Im crazy. But I give treats everyday and cater to them with warm water in the morning and sometimes with oatmeal and all winter I have gotten 4-5 eggs daily from my 5 hens. Then I added on a new run and the next day I got 6 eggs!! But thats a totally different story!

I think when they are happy they lay, when theyre not they dont! :)

Could just be the extra light or they could be really glad to be outside. I'm a spoiler when it comes to my birds, warm food in the morning and hot water. Usually a snack in the afternoon because my daughter wants to give them a treat. I have 8 girls and have been averaging 4-6 eggs for the past two weeks.
