Thanks! I thought it might be that but I have 2 places for them for dust baths that they go and just stand in. Wonder why they don't do them there? Crazy chickens!!!

Another question: The BO that is closest to the reds...is that a rooster? I have 2 BO's and they don't look the same. They are about 3 months old and my parents (I live next door to them...they think I built the chickens a castle... :) ) say it is a rooster. I have no idea. They are all supposed to be ladies...

Looks like a roo and a hen to me, or cockerel and a pullet because of their age. I have four buff's. But ended up with 3 guys and only one gal!

When I got home from work this morning, I sat on the couch to take my steel-toes off and I could have sworn I heard a rooster crow. I jumped up (with one boot on and one off) and ran over to the back door and looked out. That darn bird was on top of the steps I have in their pen for them, preening. I went and stood on the back deck to see if he would do it again....nope...just kept preening. He'd stop and look at me for a minute or two, then go back to his feathers. I walked back in the house, sat on the couch and got the other boot untied and heard it again! I think he's crowing but I can't catch him doing it!!!

LOL I've had one of my buff opringtons do the same thing. He only crowed once that I've heard and it was the worst crow EVER!! He is very verbal and sounds like he's dying anytime any of the flock touches him too.
