Is this normal?

oh my I am very naïve as I thought all chickens were female and only the rooster was the male!!! when we ordered our chickens not sure if we stipulated male/females thinking we were getting all females!

If you ordered "straight run", you will get a mix of both, it means they don't try to sex them first. If you ordered "pullets" then you should get all females ( but often there is a rooster or 2 that slipped by). They do their best to sex them correctly & send you all females. If you ordered "cockerels" well, then you ordered all roosters! Good luck!

thanks Karen! we ordered them thru a company in Ontario, Canada, Pullets Plus so fingers crossed all females! we have ordered from them in the past and all females.....so far out of 10 getting 8 eggs so will see soon!

I have this type of problem as well. I have 3 hens that are all silkie/silkie crosses that are going on 3 years old and have lived together their whole lives. My buff silkie Pumpkin has tormented my blue silkie Winter her whole lifes and she's still at it. I don't know why she still does it because the pecking order is and has been figured out for a long time! Yes every day she still picks on her and chases her around!

All my chicks hate me. They seem to get along fine with each other, but, they just want me to feed em and leave em. Boo face.

Dawnrenae, take a few treats out n sit holding them in your hand. don't move but do it daily over n over. once they are comfy with you you can start slow movements to touch them. Talk to them as well.

I hand feed treats and make clicking sounds and talk slowly. Quick movements startle them. Good luck. What breed are they?

Wish I really knew. Dad is a Cornish, giant, fat fryer. And (possibly) a silkie is doing his job, idk...

Moms vary. I have a BO, a rose comb Bard of sorts, a Plymouth Rock, and a whole bunch of others that started out as a straight run. They were a backyard project that turned into my life.
