So I have been diligently cleaning my coop and wheelbarrowing everything to the mulch pile. Today the wheelbarrow was full and I lazy so I lined the fence as extra predator proofing, in run mulch pile to forage in and maybe a place to hide the sunflower seeds I'm trying to get started in the run for the girls to play with. My question is is it OK to do this will it make them sick cuz I can finish cleaning tomorrow when I have my wheel barrow but they seem to be having so much fun with it :)

Not sure I understand but it sounds like you clean the coop bedding and dump it in the run? I would create a mulch pile away from the coop and run. Chickens can scratch in mulch piles but you want to add clean bedding or material in the run or coop after you clean.

No I usually clean the coop and run and take to the mulch pile not in the run. Yesterday I had no wheelbarrow so I piled it by the run fence til my husband got home they were having fun so I spread it out along the fence. I'm finishing cleaning today anyway. I don't usually put bedding in the run its to big. But thank you for your help :)

I just read my response to you earlier and think I sounded kinda snarky I'm sorry I was coming off a 18 hr work day and worked 30 days without a day off I was super tired (no excuse) but wanted to apologize. I was trying to just say thank you but after I had thought about it had decided not to keep it in there. Thank you again! I am new to chicken keeping and still learning :)

Hey "no sweat". I read the forum early in the morning and I am usually half asleep! No question is too "snarky" for a response.

Hopefully I am understanding your question: Basically, is it OK to put old litter in the run, and let the chickens have access to it?

Yes, it is fine. In fact, long ago, some chickens were known as Dung Hill Fowl. There is even a company (Somewhere in New England I think) that processes compost using chickens and then sells it after it is finished. Compost and dung piles until the mid 20th century were almost always open and available to chickens. They continue to go through the old litter and fresh compost materials looking for bugs and other edibles. And, If you took it out of their coop in the first place, they were already exposed to everything in the pile. All is good.
