Is this ornamental? Pomegranate by the way!

The flower petals weren’t showy, and were orangish red from the picture above. They weren’t colorful mostly same color as the rest of the flower itself. The guy who gave it to me never specified a variety name. The petals mostly came off of the flowers, but when they were still on, they didn’t cover up the center of the flower where the sweet, sweet pollen was.

Never heard of ornamental or dwarf Poms before but horticulturists can find all kinds of ways to create new varieties of trees! There are even cold hardy Pom varieties people tent during freezing weather or snow!

Your blossoms look like regular Pom fruits beginning to me. Hummingbirds love the bell-like blooms.

We have 3 different varieties of Poms ~ Wonderful, Angel Red, & Ariana & all 3 have sharp thorny branches. Our Wonderful produces the most fruit, Angel Red seems to have the larger size fruit, & Ariana is a wild bushy plant & gives us the fewest fruit. All 3 varieties grow like bamboo spreading out new stem shoots we have to prune down to one main trunk or like any citrus they spread out if not trained to one main trunk.

And beware of the term "dwarf" or "ornamental" ~ we bought a "dwarf" Meyer Lemon & its almost a normal size tree! Of course we planted it in ground rather than a container which is why it enjoys the freedom.

One thing we notice is that Pom flowers & beginning Pom fruit often falls off the trees in the breeze or knocked off by nesting sparrows or just touching a flower. For how many broken off blooms & beginning fruit we find on the ground it's amazing any fruit matures at all... but our trees have been prolific in spite of broken blooms.

Angel Red in the front yard is loaded w/ fruit so I can't prune it down yet. The fruit is so heavy the branches bend to the ground from the weight.

Wonderful is the Pom tree nearest the power pole behind the popup canopy. The hens love these trees & they are not considered toxic to chickens. Our hens will sometimes chew on the leaves & of course they LOVE the Pom fruit seeds!

The only difference I have noted with my sons Ornamental, is that it is much smaller and the fruit is too tiny to eat.
