No one seems to know the sex of this little chick! A nice family (whom we've purchased chicks from before) gave him/her to me as a "4 or 5 month old pullet" there is NO way he/she is 4 or 5 months old. He is about 1/4 the size of my 8 month old Orpington hens and about 1/2 the size of my 19 week old Barred Rock pullets. I'd have to guess that he is about 12 or 13 weeks old. He doesn't look like a pullet, but then he doesn't look like a roo either. I am so confused!

Um...which one is it?

Are we trying to figure out the one in the middle pic or the one to the left of the lighter colored bird in the third pic?

Well, I can see where it could be a boy or girl.

It COULD be a 4 or 5 month old pullet...especially if the strains were different. Several times different hatcheries have different size breeders and come out with different size birds.

Could you take more photos when it's not raining? I'm not entirely convinced it's a boy, but the first picture does show some pointy feathers, but I would expect a boy to have darker colors on its back, neck and saddle area.

I am getting a Barred Rock rooster on Saturday. I was "needing" to know the sex of this chick, because I didn't want two Roos. But I have since decided to raise Barred Rocks and Sex-links so I am going to be getting a BR roo anyway, no matter what this chick turns out to be. I am leaning toward cockerel but I guess time will tell!
