Hello all, I recently acquired four chicks but am wanting to add a few ducks as well. I’ve had ducks in the past when I lived in the Carolina mountains and had a fresh running creek in my yard. The only reason I still don’t live there or have them, is because my house flooded and I lost it. I now live in central Florida, and I know gators are a concern but the pond is pretty far removed from other water sources and I’m pretty sure there aren’t any because if there was they’d be out sunning themselves on cooler days. It’s a good size but mostly lily pads. Thoughts?

That appears bigger than the pond I have for muy ducks (approx 20' x 30') - and if you don't have gators now, you likely soon will.

I've lived 40+ years in Florida, almost all of it in Central Florida, and there was almost no permanent body of water I was aware of the didn't have a gator, unless it was too small and there was no significantly larger body nearby. Possibly your puddle falls into that category.

I’m also a born and raised Floridian, from further down south where yes even the ditches held alligators at times. I’ve lived here a few months now and have been looking/hearing for signs of any and haven’t found them. I was just wondering if it was too heavily vegetated, and also I know snapping turtles can be a concern.
