I have 4 ducks. A male khaki, a female khaki, and two female runners. I've noticed that the female khaki and one of the female runners seem to be trying to sit on the eggs. In the morning it's the khaki and at night one of the runners. I keep taking the eggs. They are not mean about it. It's like they are border line broody together and sharing the responsibility. This started a few days ago. At first I thought they were sick because when they are on the nest nothing, not even treats can get them off. I would love babies but I can't take the chance of having any more boys, it just wouldn't be responsible. I am interested in what they are trying to do and it seems they are working together.

It can be contagious it is here anyway one goes broody next thing I know I have 3-5 broody. Chickens an ducks so probably they are feeling the broody bug and since one started the nest the other just joined in the fun. Just keep taking their eggs they will eventually get over it.

I was talking to Solomon the Muscovy drake here on this very topic last night.
One minute it's, 'I haven't got time for all that, I'm due back at work in 10 mins' and the next it's 'can't you just do it quickly while I eat something before I go back to work'.
He's had the same problems with his other half Jenny. And now she's got eggs to sit on every time he goes anywhere near her she comes out of her house like a torpedo with wings and proceeds to chase him around the sheep shed.
We sit under the hay rack in the evenings where she can't get at us.:p
