I just got my first group of heritage turkeys, 7 chocolate and 1 blue slate. All 7 chocolates had milk choc colored down when I got them. At 1.5 weeks I am noticing that only 2 of the chocolates are the regular color of pictures I've been seeing, and 5 are changing to another color.

What color is this? Or do they go through color phases?

Sorry for the terrible quality pictures.

Can't really tell from those pics. If you have pics from when it was a day or so old, post those pics.

They look to be more bronze colored.
Disclaimer: I have NEVER owned chocolates before.

I was thinking the same but they have a mask.

I don't have any from then.

After doing some more research they may be rusty blacks, though I'm still not sure. I found this on Porter's.

You might be right. When they are just a day or so old, they have the face mask and chocolate down. Chocolates are black based. It is also a sex linked gene. If you cross a Chocolate tom with a Black hen, all the black poults will be males and all the chocolate poults will be female.

Thanks, at what age should I be able to tell the color for sure?
