I have a possibly silly question as I just got 6 - 3 day olds from Ideal and on the paper that came woth them they are saying to put them on a water soluable vitamin for 3 days. Is it really neccesary and if so can you use an infant vitamin in the water and if so how much vitamin to water? I have never raised chicks this young and I need advice. Thanks Trudy

I've never used vitamins in the water, and never lost a chick to anything other than genetic defect (foot deformity) or my niece's over attention (think the dentist's niece in 'Finding Nemo')

Dunno - I know many breeders swear by it, especially for shipped birds, but I've had great results without the vitamins.

I feed Dumor brand unmedicated chick starter from TSC.

I agree with all the above use a good medicated feed.

Okay thanks that 's what I thought too. I feed purina start - n - grow feed but nowhere on the bag does that say medicated but is it medicated? I have not ever found anything on the labes stating so.
