We have seven chickens. We thought all were hens but there is one that I'm not sure about. It keeps charging the other hens. I've never seen it actually fight with or continually peck the others. But it regularly drops its head and charges the others and chases them around the run. It occasionally pecks at the others but nothing bad. It also fluffs it's hackles and thrusts it's chest out. This may be a dumb question but this is our first go at chickens and being that it's still young (3-4 months) I don't know any other way to tell if it's a rooster. It's comb is quite small which is why we thought it was a hen in the first place. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I could tell that we had a roo on our hands at 8 weeks old. The red comb was very evident. If you're not sure at 3-4 months of age, i'm guessing that its a hen.

How can you tell by the color of the comb? Sorry, I'm only about 2 months into chicken ownership.

rooster's combs are much redder, and usually alot bigger, and the same goes for their wattles. also, roosters usually have bigger, thicker, longer legs than hens, and their spurs are longer, unless its an old english game.
