Is this scaly mites? [Pic]

Grab her at night off the roast. Smear Vaseline on legs. Then put her back.
x2. I have a very flighty golden lace wyandotte who runs from me when I try to catch her. I have been able to catch her with no problems after they hunker down for the night in their coop. Not sure if it's because she's in sleep mode or if it's because she's more comfortable etc but it's helped!!

Maybe you could entice her over to you with some treats too? Good luck!

Yep, they told you like it is.

It looks that it to me. Cover the legs and feet in vaseline for about two weeks. It will smother the mites and the feet will heal.

Good advise.

It looks like one of my girls has scaly mites! But she's too timid for me to catch her everyday and put Vaseline on.... What else can I do??

Don't ask for her permission just go out after dark and catch her off the roost. You don't need to treat every day maybe once to three times a week.

Mineral oil is almost identical to Vaseline aka petroleum jelly. Vaseline just sticks better and stays in place longer.

Treat all your birds at one time or else get prepared to play musical scaly leg mites.

Some liquid Permetherin insecticide mixed into the Vaseline or mineral oil makes this work even better.

I think my poor roo has scaly mites. I have cleaned his feed with warm soapy water and put VetRx on his feetnow his scales are falling off. Is this normal im freaking out over this a little. Its the first time ive had to deal with this. Thanks in advance

I treat with vasaline. They sell a good size jar at Walgreens, I buy the Walgreens brand.

1. Wear rubber gloves it is extremely messy
2. It is a whole lot easier if you have someone help you. Its not easy to hold a chicken with one hand and smear vasaline with the other hand.
3. I would treat all birds.
4. I treat about every third day for 2 weeks and has worked fine for me. After about the 2 treatment the hens caught on as soon as they saw me coming with my rubber gloves and jar of vasaline they ran to the other end of the run instead of meeting me at the gate. It took them awhile to forgive me too. ;-)

I have a flock of about 23 birds. Its amazing how some birds never get them. I had to treat last year and I had 4 birds in the flock were worse than the picture in this thread the other not a sign.

This is my 6 month old Dominique. When I was doing my weekly check, I noticed her legs.....does she have scaly mites or it it just the way her leg scales lay? I mix DE into their dust bath corner and this is the first time I've notices any of my girls legs looking like this. Should I isolate or just lather her legs with Aquaphor or petroleum jelly?
