Is this shed worth $800 (+cost to convert to coop)

It does seem high, but if I had the money, I would probably go for it. When I decided to get bantams this year, I found one of those 4 by 6 Amish built coops ($1299-1599 new) for $500 and it was only 1 year old. DH could have used his father's rollback to get it, but no, it was too expensive. Instead he took 3 months, $400+ and many frustrating hours building my 4 by 6 with attached run. I really love my new mobile coop, but I could have attached wheels & a run for $100 or so more & skipped the drama. Of course he used all new materials & his $200 estimate grew to the $400. Just depends if you can build or not. Next time I'm getting something and converting. Good luck!

Have you tried to negotiate with them?? We bought our shed off Craigslist, he wanted $600 for it, we got him down to $300 and then paid another $150 to have it moved. It is 8x16 with one door and no windows. Does that window it have in it open?
It's a very cute shed, if you feel $800 is worth the time/effort, then I wouldn't hesitate to go for it and not look back!!

Thanks for everyone's input.

I have tried to negotiate with him. I offered $600, he said no. Maybe he'll call back if he can't sell it.

The asking price includes delivery, so taking off $150 for delivery, I'm only paying $650 for the shed. Not too bad to have it delivered and be over with.

I'm also trying to bid out a job on craigslist to build one from scratch. I've gotten a ton of responses so far, but no one's given me a quote. I bet quotes come in really high.

Again, thanks for everyone's input. This is a great forum.

Just curious about where you are located. If you already said I apologize for asking again. I am in Central Oregon and just bought a well made 8 x 12 wooden stoarge shed including delivery for $600.00. So yes the price does seem high. I have seen many better deals on craigslist in my area. Also you might try posting it as a want if you have a local freecycle group. I received some very nice free rabbit hutches through freecycle.

Good luck with the coop search.

I agree, you could build the same thing for well under $800. Or you could build a lrager one for the same price. Self built structures are nice because you end up with what you want, not having to compromise. Just a thought.

Located near Boston. Prices for everything are high here, but if you bought an 8x12 for $600, I can do better than $800 for a 8x4.

was thinking about this again...you know we bought...not for chickens at the time...but we bought a storage shed from Sears on sale 10x10 for 300.00 all we had to do was put it together via insturctions...and so we bbq'd and spent one day doing that...it was for our garden stuff....

now I want to yank from DH for my chickens!!!!
