Is this size ok?

Would a 24 inch by 14 inch cage be ok to bring a single coturnix quail in for the winter? Probably 1-3 months depending on how the weather is like.

He doesn't have any friends yet as all the breeders apparently stopped doing quail (locally at least). What would be the space requirement when I find him two buddies?

Many people work on 1 square foot per bird, but personally I prefer 1.5 sq feet per bird. However, I do think it's not a great idea to have the bird on it's own.......

I'm hoping to get him two girls soon, I just need to find a local breeder.

You might try putting an add on Craigs List in the pet section and the wanted section. Many look at the wanted adds.
