Okay..this was our mystery chick from Mcmurray this past March. It's now 5mths old and NOT crowing --the other two that turned out to be roos are already crowing (and gone

) So, I'm pretty sure this is a hen (very LARGE hen) -- BUT can't find out what kind it is?? It is the same size as our other white brahmas but the coloring is way different--it took a long time to feather out too--still is kind of "downy" in spots--Anyways--if anybody has any idea what this gentle giant might be, we'd appreciate it

! (I'm beginning to think it might be an emu or an ostrich

Here's what she/it looked like when it was a chick..my kids named it "Jaguar" because of the stripes and patterns on the down

-- the name is pretty neutral too so it's stuck

Dark Brahma Rooster. See the pointy feathers hanging off its back? Besides, the girls look totally different. The are beautiful but different.

go to this thread and see post # 10

it shows the rooster and the hens in the picture below, or go to www.google.images.com and type in dark brahma hen and you can see some closer up pics of what they look like. I have seven of them growing out right now, trying to decide if I am going make room for another variety or sell them. I will wait and sell. I think they are beautiful!

I think you are right

-- that was my gut from the beginning, but I kept hoping otherwise----we can't keep another roo

----- Anyone interested??

?? One of our silver spangled hamburgs ended up being a roo too--he was pretty wild and crazy, we "re-homed" him, felt bad..he was gorgeous
sad.png
-- I hate when you order pullets and end up with roos--I know it can't always be helped, but it's hard when you raise them from babies--nuts

I ended up with 2 dark brahma roos too(bantam or they are supposed to be anyway). Although when I posted their pictures as chicks, every response I got from here said it was a roo and a hen, lol.

This guy is so not a bantam
smile.png
-- he's huge--dwarfs the other chickens--which I guess should have been a clue too
sad.png
--I'm hoping my other three light brahmas are hens -- I'm going to have to go find some pictures online to see if they are similar to what I have---glad we ordered a bunch this time....I hate having to give up our babies

I agree, he's a dark brahma cockerel. He should look something like this when he's grown:

(note the yellow you see in his hackle and saddle feathers is called bronzing and washes off, only I ain't about to try and give him a bath
