Up to you, but I think with that bird being nearly the cost of 1000lbs of feed you could start your breeding program more ground level and work for there. Could be more rewarding! But if that’s where you want to start and the 375 doesn’t sting, drop the hammer 🔨Just my .02.

Before you drop a large sum of money on starting a breeding program, you need to think of what you want to accomplish. If you want to breed to the standard and compete in shows, study the standard and visit some poultry shows first. Speak to judges and breeders to see what traits you should be looking for in winning Silkies. Could this pullet help you achieve the goals you've set for yourself?

A lot of factors would go into her value/worth. Your personal goals and how well this bird aligns to those goals is the main thing. Bloodline, breeder's reputation, show history, age, etc are also factored in.

Still, I personally wouldn't pay that much for a single bird. As part of a compatible pair or trio, then maybe.

As @AprilWC said, it depends on your goals, how well she aligns to those, and your budget. Starting with a pen filled with high quality birds that are close to the SOP and could place at shows is an amazing start to a breeding program, if you have the funds.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the SOP so just ignore if you are, but check toes (spacing, length, color), ask for more photos of her from different angles, be really critical of her wing feathers and carriage, make sure she has the balance and type you want. Ask for photos of the parent stock and the other breeders they have.

You may also want to ask if she's vaccinated, and what for.

If she's coming from an ABA Master Breeder etc and she'd place in a show and has the look you want, then yes, that's not a bad price. If showing and winning ASAP is your goal, then yes, you're going to be dropping some big money to get started.

She has good splash color, her crest looks balanced at this point, her wing feathers are showing a bit, maybe it's just how she's standing, make sure those are well carried and the primaries arent too long.
