is this suppose to happen?

My hen just started laying eggs two weeks ago and there hasnt been any weird eggs but one. All of them have been brown with tiny white speckle but one which was really long and had purple dots. Is this normal?

I have never heard of that. Since there is no chicken pigment that makes it purple it may be some chemical or product your chicken can consume. If it was green I could tell you that green yolks were caused by the consumption of acorns. May we see a picture?

I have a couple of HRIR that lay medium tan eggs with purple spots all the time. It is perfectly normal egg shell color variation.

Normal....might not happen consistently, and that's normal too.

Thanks! I just got another egg from her. It still has small purple spots but its a lot smaller.

Curious what breed this is with the purple spot. Supposedly some Langshan hens can have a purple/plum colored bloom over the egg.
