Hi all, I am having concerns about my chicken. She is currently suffering with sour crop, which I am treating. However she has been having these concerns poops. She has had a few that are bloody possibly. The first reddish poops happened after I gave her water and massaged her crop for her sour crop. She has been fasting while I’ve been treating her. I did feed her this morning, her poops are back to brown, but with the weird threading still there. Her feathers are ruffled and she is slightly hunch, however that may be because of the cold. Any advice on how to proceed would be great.

It would not hurt to worm her with Valbazen 1/2 ml (0.5 ml) given orally and repeat that in 10 days. Or to give SafeGuard liquid goat wormer 1/4 ml (0.25 ml) per pound of weight given orally for 5 consecutive days. You cannot see worm eggs in the poop without a microscope, so if your vet can do a fecal float, it might help to know if there are worm eggs or coccidia. Corid is safe to use as well. Both worms and coccidiosis can cause runny poops with blood or mucus. Coccidiosis is more common in very young birds.

Do you think it’s also safe to use monistat (for the sour crop) with all the dewormer and Corid?

If you could get a vet to check her poop for parasites with a fecal float, it could rule out worms and coccidiosis. I would use the Monistat for sour crop and worm her. How old is she?
