Home Depot sells them. They're called whitewood studs.

I see them on their website but from what i see they only sell them in one size. I would like a couple 6 footers and 10 footers.

Lumber is sold in multiples of 4 feet.

You can get 8 feet and 12 feet, but not 6 feet or 10 feet.

Where do I buy plain ole 2x4s?

Home Depot as mentioned. $5. Save you some money over those others. You can even paint them to get extra life out of them. But chickens might eat pealing paint so it’s gotta be safe for birds. Personally, I’d leave them as is. Indoors they will last quite a while.

I did paint one of mine and it makes scraping poop off easier. I also have unpainted ones.

Painted is definitely easier. One of our roosts was painted with a high gloss exterior paint before we got it and it's so much better than unpainted or the flat paint. Definitely on my list of must haves. I don't worry about them eating it because I'd notice if it started chipping, but absolutely be careful of fumes for the entire 48 hrs it takes to be "dry enough".

I believe you, but I always find this a bit mystifying.

Unless I have juveniles playing on the roosts while the adults are out in the run, I never have poop on the roosts.

Maybe because they're round? Being wrist-thick natural branches.
