Dominique was ok yesterday. We found her in a nesting box last night but it's the coldest it's been, ever, for her and the box is near a panel heater so left her. This morning she was still there and unable to hold her neck properly.

She is good weight and bright red comb still.

They eat a layer feed with some treats (scratch, mealworms and some food scraps). They have had hay to scratch around in twice in the last week. They free range from 7:30 til roosting time. She was able to get herself up inside the coop, which is elevated, and jump into a nest box yesterday evening.

I am interested in the most humane option for her. I can keep her inside and I am happy to take the time to help her. I am home 90% of the day. But.....

She is currently inside but won't take cooked scrambled egg from my hand.

Thoughts?

What does her crop feel like?

Hard to tell if it's Wry Neck or something else. When was the last time she laid an egg?
Has she pooped at all?

I would get fluids into her. Syringe or tube vitamins and/or electrolytes into her. Once hydrated offer some wet feed and some bits of egg.

I won't hurt to give her Vitamin E (400IU) and B-Complex (1/4 tablet) once a day for 3-4 days to see if that helps.

Hubs doesn't feel anything. But I do feel a hard, maybe large gumball sized, lump though lower than I'd imagine.

We do not believe she (nor some of the other younglings) has started laying yet. We have seen others on the nesting boxes and it usually correlates with eggs collected. We have not seen her in a box as of yet.

A few small pieces were found in the nesting box and a white capped small poop in her box inside the house so in the last 1.5 hrs.

I did syringe her water pretty quick. I will continue to do this. We will purchase electrolytes this morning.

Our vitamin E is in liquid form. The B complex is in powder capsule form. I also have a B-complex in liquid, made for dogs liver health, but it also has a few extra vitamins. I'll attach a picture of the label. I also have selenium tablets.

Edit to add pic.

@Wyorp Rock

Also, she is in good body condition. Has a good amount of weight, is bright eyed and alert and red face and comb. Her neck can be straighten out and it doesn't seem to cause her discomfort. This is also pretty quick onset. She is about 28 weeks now.

@Eggcessive

She has not declined though she is still not eating nor drinking on her own yet.

Sould I give the vitamin mix (400IU E and 1/4 b-complex) again tonight?

Her neck is slightly straighter and she has better control. She was also able to stand and look around and then get back in her crate and jump into the box ok so not really sure what is going on.

Thank you!

Can she really be doing so much better this morning? Or could it have been something other than wry neck?
The first four pics are from this morning and the last is what she looked like 24 hrs ago.

Thank you!

Glad she's doing better.
Could she have possibly been being kept from food/water by the flock mates and she was dehydrated?
I would continue with the vitamins for a few days. If she's able to walk, eat/drink on her own and interact with the flock, then I'd put her back and see how she does.

She is up exploring, pooping and eating her mash. I have yet to see her actually drink water but that doesn't mean she isn't when I'm not looking.

She most definitely doesn't get bullied or pushed around. And she has great body mass. But if I'm honest I really don't know what happens the 75% of time I am not with them. I like to think I am super attentive, perfect and engaged but....🤷 lol

I will continue the vitamins and keep her on close watch inside for another 24 hrs.

Thank you for your help. I am super glad to have this community to come to for advice when I just don't know what to do. I am learning a lot, and freaking out a lot less, this second year. Maybe someday I'll get to the point that I can also give advice to someone new who is freaking out and has no idea what to do :D
