My daughters chicks are now 12 weeks old today. I know for sure I have 1 Rooster as he's been trying to crow for the past 2 weeks. Toothless though still stumps me. His comb turned red at around 4 weeks old, but has not grown at all, and really don't see any waddle growth on him at all. I took pictures of them yesterday and for the first time caught the blue iridescence to some of his feathering. I haven't raised chickens for over 20 years and my gut is telling me I have a slower maturing Rooster but i'm holding out hope for a hen.

So, in your all's opinion is Toothless a hen or roo?

Thank you for the replies everyone. It will be interesting to see what he ends up looking like when fully grown. Any thoughts on what his pattern, or coloring is called? I did not expect him to be mostly black when he hatched. A friend gave us some eggs from her mixed flock for our hen to set on. I have no idea what the parent breeds were, other then she said if we had a hen there was a chance of getting colored eggs. So I assume there were some Easter Eggers as potential parents. This is toothless as a baby, so pale yellow he looked white.

Looks to be golden -unless by the yellow cast on the hackle I am mistaken- expressing mahogany. Probably heterozygous for duckwing and birchen.
