Is two eggs in a day possible??

Hi! I still consider my self a beginner in backyard chickens although I've had them over a year. My first two ended up roosters. I found home for one and one passed away just after his first birthday. I now have three hens and one rooster. Two of the hens lay and I've been waiting for the youngest to start. She is about 5 or 6 months old. Today I went to the nest box and had 3 eggs! I know what my two layers eggs look like. One was from my hen Polly and the other two looked like they came from Hattie. Is it possible she could have laid two eggs in one day??? She was in the nest box about an hour ago and so I went out after I noticed she had vacated. To my knowledge my younger hen has not begun laying. Hattie hasn't laid in about two weeks I'm guessing due to heat. So would this be possible even? Any answers or thoughts appreciated!

It is possible for a hen to lay two eggs. However, it is rare.

I am pretty sure that one of ours laid 2 in one day when she first started. Maybe the first egg was slow in coming out, and the other caught up with it....
