Is weekly calcium citrate a bad idea?

Do you keep oyster or egg shells for them or do you find it unnecessary?

If you're feeding them a pelleted or crumbled age appropriate feed then no, it is not necessary.

Mine get Oyster Shells 100% & grit free choice, Flock Raiser 20% feed. I've tried the other "Oyster Shells" but my girls didn't care to it, then read and they're mixed with seashells or coral. Mine are "spoiled" and I sell my eggs so rarely have any shells to crunch up beside with only 3 hens, not much.

If everyone is doing great, except for one chicken, you have a individual chicken issue. If multiple birds or doing or laying poorly, you have a flock problem. Occasionally you get a hen that has problems with their shell gland, or other reproductive issues. Dosing that chicken individually with extra calcium may or may not help. From what you describe, I don't think their overall diet is the problem.
